Referral and Induction Process
At EVJ Aspire CIC, we prioritise a smooth and effective referral and induction process for schools, parents/guardians, and students alike. Ensuring clear communication and a seamless transition is key to providing the best support for every young person we work with.
Once the school completes the referral form and provides the necessary information about the student, we begin drafting an individual learning plan. Using this plan, we arrange a meeting with the student, either at their school or in a location of their choice-often their own home or safe space. As we believe it’s essential that the first meeting is on their terms. This helps establish trust and creates a comfortable environment for open communication. During our first meeting, we gather more information about the student from their own perspective. This helps us tailor their ILP and provide personalised support. Our goal is to ensure that the plan aligns with their needs, aspirations, and unique circumstances. A copy of the Individual Learning Plan (ILP) is then shared with the school and reviewed on a quarterly basis to ensure it remains relevant and effective. The plan is updated as needed to reflect the student’s progress and evolving needs.
The next step is student induction. During this process, the student will meet each staff member involved in their learning journey individually. We believe it’s important for the student to put faces to names and become familiar with each point of contact, ensuring they feel supported and confident throughout their experience. The student will also be appointed a one-to-one mentor, who will guide them throughout their learning journey. As part of this process, they will complete a personalised ‘About Me’ portfolio, sharing insights into their life outside of education, helping to build a more holistic understanding of their interests, strengths, and aspirations. This portfolio will become their learning journal, which we encourage them to update at the end of each session. It helps foster self-reflection and encourages students to celebrate both their personal and educational achievements, reinforcing a sense of progress and accomplishment.
From here, the student will be introduced to the group setting with their peers and supported by their mentor. The mentor will gradually take a back seat, only once the student feels settled and confident in the group environment, ensuring a smooth transition and continued support. If there is ever disengagement for any reason, elements of the induction process will be repeated to ensure the student feels comfortable and confident in their learning environment. This approach helps to re-establish trust and support, allowing the student to re-engage with their learning journey.
Overall, it is our priority to remain youth-centred while maintaining a positive partnership with the school. This collaborative approach allows us to work together to provide the best possible outcomes for each individual, ensuring that their needs are met, and their potential is fully supported.
